This Patient Is Estimated To Get Rid Of HIV!

HIV / AIDS is widely known as a terrible disease and cannot be cured. It's just that, the latest news actually shows that there is an HIV patient in London, England who is thought to be able to recover from a disease that affects 70 million people worldwide. Patients who have not been publicized can become the second patient who was declared able to recover from HIV in the past 40 years!

Previously there was only one patient who could recover from HIV

Reported from the journal Nature, which was just published on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 yesterday, it was mentioned that previously only one patient recovered from HIV , namely Timothy Ray Brown from Berlin, Germany. This second patient was treated with the same therapy as Timothy found, namely getting a stem cell transplant from a carrier donor that has a rare genetic mutation of CCR5-delta 32. By getting this transplant, the patient's body can be better resistant or fight the HIV virus.

Now, the patient from London has been in the stage of remission after last taking an antiretroviral drug 18 months ago.
"Because the patient is in the stage of remission, we also consider what happened to Timothy from Berlin who claimed to be cured of HIV is not an anomaly. This is a new hope for people with HIV throughout the world, "said Professor Ravindra Gupta from College University , London.

It's just that, Gupta also mentioned it was too early to assume the patient from London had recovered from HIV. The patient still gets intensive handling and supervision from the researchers to find out the progress of his condition.
In addition, the method applied to patients from London was not always able to have a positive impact on all HIV sufferers. Even so, Gupta is optimistic that the development of this therapeutic method can provide hope for recovery for HIV sufferers in the future.

Every year, 1 million people with HIV die

Research shows that around 1 million people with HIV die. This number is very large, but it is understandable considering that HIV has been considered an incurable disease and can cause a rapid decline in health conditions. In addition, in order to survive longer, people with HIV can only take antiretroviral drugs for the rest of their lives.

This patient from London has been diagnosed with HIV since 2003 and has started taking antiretroviral drugs since 2012. One of the effects of his HIV disease is advanced Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer which led him to undergo chemotherapy and stem cell transplantation in 2016. About 16 months after therapy he was still taking antiretroviral drugs.

However, Gupta and his colleagues then asked the patient to stop taking this drug to find out whether he had entered the remission stage or not. For 18 months the patient did not take the drug at all. Gupta and his colleagues then checked the level of the HIV virus in his body and found the fact that the virus had not been detected.

The same condition also occurs in patients from Germany, Timothy. The impact of his HIV disease caused him to get acute leukemia. He also had to undergo antiretroviral therapy and even twice underwent a bone marrow transplantation process. After entering the remission stage, Timothy claimed to have completely recovered from HIV. He also became the only person recovering from this disease in history.
